Pete's First Father's Day

Nate and I spoiled his Daddy for his first Father's Day.
Nate made him an awesome photobook full of pictures and Daddy and him and he even put one or two of me in it as well. Pete really liked his gifts and I even got to steal him away from a late afternoon snack. We went to a lovely restaurant in Langley called "Coza", the food was wonderful and we left Nate at Grandma's house with her, Grandpa and Uncle Roland.
Our nephew's Joel and Robert came by and got to meet Nate and we had a nice family dinner at Pete's mom's house.

A Day in Hell!!!

So after the go from the Dr after Nate's ultrasound we can get him circumcised.
Well it was going to be rough for me as all I can think about is he's going to be in pain, *sniff sniff.
Pete took the day off to takes us to Children's Hospital at 8am. I was all good up to the point when the Dr injected the freezing in to the base of Nate's penis, the nurse said "is Mommy ready to go?" I started to cry and said "yes", she told me where I could wait. I left Pete behind to deal with Nate.
The nurse came and got me after 10 mins or so and I came in the room, Nate was fine and so was Pete. I picked him up and sat in the rocking chair to give him a nurse. Pete said it was fine, I asked him if he felt like he was gonna pass out watching it (he does has a history, BA HA HA) and he said he couldn't as he had to be strong for Nate, such a good Dad.
Pete left us to go pay the bill, $150 for the hospital and $200 for the Dr. What a joke!
When Pete came back in the room he found Nate all red faced and me totally stressed out as I couldn't get him to settle. Poor Pete's thinking what the hell happened? Pete took him and I got the nurse. She checked him and he was bleeding so she did compression on his poor lil penis. Not nice to watch your poor child cry and your not sure why. Is he in pain? Uncomfortable? Hungry? He never cries so it was very stressful for us both.
Well we got him settled and got a green light to go home and got the heads up of what to do and if there are any issues to come back. They said it looked all good so there should be no issues (oh if only we were that lucky).
At home the first diaper change was good but at 2pm the next one had a lot of blood in it, more then what was in the hospital, YIKES! So I run around looking for gauze which we have none of, I call the Dr in a panic and he can't be reached and was told to go to emergency.
We scramble like mad and rush back to the hospital and I'm freaking out cause all I can think off is the story last year of the Kellowna boy who died from circumcision due to excessive blood loss. I know I'm a freak!
So they get us in fast and they take all the dressing off and poor nipper (my nick name for Nate) is screaming! Oh come on give mom a break! They get the urologist to come in and have a look and she does more compression as he's bleeding and to me it's A LOT of blood but then again I cried when a tiny spot of bleed showed up from his umbilical cord stump... OK stop laughing. They re-bandaged him and put a compression bandage on him, why didn't they do this in the first place??? So just as we think it's all over and we get poor Nate calmed down...they tell us he needs blood work! OH GOD Nooooo... The nurse comes in and she wrapped his tiny lil arm to find a vein and the crying starts again. OK at this point Pete says "do we really need to do the blood work? Can we come back another day?" They tell us they need to see if his blood is clotting. She can't find a vein and tries the other arm. Nothing. Goes back to the first arm and this time ties it so tight his arm goes purple!!! Are you f'en kidding me? Well she decided to go in and fishes for the vein! OH YES SHE DID!!! She was moving the needle all around in his arm and Nate is screaming like we have never heard before and he's totally freaking out and I'm dying on the inside. She FINALLY gets the vein and fills the vial up and it's over. I wanted to grab Nate and run as fast as I could out of there. Poor Pete was so stressed out he had to go for a smoke and he quit =(
They come back in about 15-20 mins and tell us his blood work was great and we can go home, THANK GOD!
We went home and all three of us curled up in bed and crashed, we were all wiped.
Took me 2 days to recover from it and wish we could erase it from our memory. Good thing Nate will not remember it.

So here is the kicker... we asked the Dr the previous week if it is necessary to have him circumcised and he said "No. All I get is your money." BUT when Pete was talking to him after words he said it was a good thing we had it done cause with Nate's kidney problems he is prone to infection and this will prevent it! Oh piss off! We asked but it's like they don't want the Dr's to encourage circumcision.
Pete did some research before we had it done and there are a lot of new studies from 2000 forward showing why it SHOULD be done and the cure for any issues for an uncircumcised penis is... get this, circumcision! So there you have it.

All I have to say is the second one BETTER be a girl! hee hee hee

A tree for Nate

A ex-employee of mine, Ruth and her fiance Dirk came over to plant a Rose bush for me in my yard that will produce rose hips that I can make tea with. Ruth gave me some rose hips from her's already and it makes a great tea full of Vit C. They will help me with picking the rose hips and if we ever move they with help us move and transplant it.
I told them the Rose bush would be in honor of Nate's birth. The Rose plant is over 80 years old and has been moved from Vancouver to Richmond and some of the off shoot back to Vancouver (like mine) and to their new home in Coquitlam. I'm so excited and there are a few tiny little rose buds on it already and I'll get more and more every year, wheeeeee....
I can't thank Ruth and Dirk enough for such a wonderful gift that we will cherish for years.
